Gulfstar 47 Sailmaster Spec

Powerplant

Engine is a Perkins Range 4 Desiel. It is a 6 cylinder, normaly aspirated, fresh water cooled with sea water heat exchanger and is rated at 120 horsepower. At 3/4 gallon per hour fuel consumption, she will maintain 5 knots. Fuel is stored in two tanks. 200 gallons of in the main tank and 40 in the auxilary tank. Savannah has a range of 1500 nautical miles under power or roughly 12 days of motoring.

Electrical System

Main 110v ac power is derived from a 6k Northern Lights Generator. This is the primary battery charger and also powers our watermaker. Two (or more if I get them) solar panels provide supplimental 12v charging during the daylight hours, weather permitting. Two sets of category 24 6v batteries wired in series make up our 12v house batteries. Total of 700 amp hours storage. A 2000 watt modified sine 110v inverter is used to power our 110v ac appliances when untied from the dock.

Watermaker

A modular 110v reverse osmosis system from Qualilty Water Works. Watermaker generates 45 gallons per hour from the sea through two 4 foot membranes. Similar to an Echo water system, but less expensive. All parts are off the shelf excepting the control panel.

Sail Plan

Ketch rig has 924 square feet of sail area. The main sail is a custom 9 oz. fully battened main sail, three reef points, coupled with a Sailtrack and battcar system for ease of hoisting/dropping sail. This falls into a Doyle canvas stackpack with lazy jacks. Spinnaker is symetrical and the "tack" attaches to a spinnaker Tacker. Spinnaker is on the small side so can be handled with ease. A Gailsail storm sail can attach to the mizzen mast and doubles as a rider sail while at anchor.

Ground Tackle

A 55 lb Delta plow anchor is attached to 200 feet of 3/8 galvanized chain and 150 feet of 3/4 inch nylon rode. A nylon rode/rubber snubber combo is use as a shock absorber at the bow when anchored with all chain rode. Secondary anchor is a Fortress F-15 with 50 feet of chain and 150 feet of nylon rode. Backup/storm anchor is a CQR 45 lb plow with 125 feet of chain.

Dingy

Hard bottom zodiac with 8 H.P. Nissan outboard.
